* “Love is such that the lover needs no asking to do anything.”

“사랑함으로 그대의 존재 전체가 변하여, 그대의 삶도 결국 참자유(Freedom)를 이룰 것이다.”

* “The gift of love is a rare gift of God, and rarely is one capable of receiving it.”

“사랑의 선물은 고귀하고 드문 신의 선물(gift of God)이며, 그 선물을 받아들일 수 있는 자도 드물다.”

* “God is infinitely more vital to your existence than your breath which is your very life. Ordinarily, life is associated with breath; but you only become aware of this when breath is restricted through exertion, and you only completely realize this when breath is cut off altogether as when drowning. Similarly, you only become aware that God is your existence when you pant for Him, and you only finally realize Him when you drown in His Ocean of divine Love.”

“신은 그대의 존재를 유지하는 데 생명 자체인 호흡보다도 무한히 더 중요하다. 보통 생명은 숨과 연관된다. 그러나 그대는 숨이 찰 때에만 호흡을 의식한다. 즉 물에 빠졌을 때처럼 숨이 막힐 때에만 숨의 중요성을 완전히 인식하게 된다. 마찬가지로 신이 그대의 존재 자체라는 사실은, 질식하기 직전의 사람이 숨을 찾듯이 그대가 그분을 갈망할 때에만 알게 된다; 또한 그대가 그분의 신성한 사랑의 바다(His Ocean of divine Love)에 빠져 익사할 때에만 비로소 그를 깨달을 것이다.”

* “It is difficult for one to understand the Spiritual Path, and still more difficult to get on the Path.”

“영적 경로를 이해하는 것도 어려운 일이지만, 그 길 위에 올라선다는 것은 더더욱 어려운 일이다.”

* “What is fasting the mind? It is having no thoughts. But this is impossible. But when you entrust your mind to me by constantly remembering me, there are no thoughts left on which the mind can feed. This fasting is the true and essential fasting. Starving the stomach may benefitthe health but it does not necessarily help spiritual advancement.”

“마음의 단식(fasting the mind)이란 무엇인가? 이것은 ‘어떠한 생각도 없음’을 뜻한다. 하지만 이는 불가능하다. 그러나 그대가 나를 끊임없이 기억함으로써 자신의 마음을 내게 맡긴다면, 그대의 마음은 더 이상 먹을거리가 없게 된다. 바로 이러한 단식이 진정한 단식이며, 필수적인 단식이다. 배를 굶기는 일은 건강에는 좋을지 모르지만, 영적 진보를 돕는다는 보장은 없다.”

* “You say that you see me in dreams. These dreams arise from your own impressions formed through your love and faith in me. Do not attribute them to me. I have come into your midst to awaken you from the long, drawn-out Dream of Illusion—not to create more dreams for you!”

 

“그대는 나를 꿈에서 보았다고 얘기한다. 그 꿈들은 나에 대한 사랑과 믿음으로 인해 축적된 그대의 인상들(impressions)에 의해서 생겨난 것이다. 그 꿈을 내 덕으로 돌리지 말아라. 내가 내려와 그대들과 함께 하는 이유는 더 많은 꿈을 창조하기 위해서가 아니라, 이 길고 지겹게 늘어지는 환상의 꿈(Dream of Illusion)에서 그대를 깨우기 위해서다!”
